For reasons not entirely clear to me, I like eating breakfast on the floor in the kitchen. It might be a kind of Temple Grandin impulse (she is autistic and a writer, and learned by watching cattle go calmly through narrow chutes that she likes being tightly enclosed). Leaning against the refrigerator, I can see out the two kitchen windows, up through tree branches into the sky. I feel safe on the floor, out of view, in a semi-enclosed space — sometimes sitting on a chair at a table feels like way too much space.
